Shinsegae I&C expands AI vision solution to convenience stores, applies self-checkout system at CU
Shinsegae I&C said on Aug. 11 it will expand its AI vision-based retail solutions to convenience stores by introducing an AI vision payment management solution at CU convenience stores operated by BGF Retail. The solution analyzes customer behavior at self-checkouts and guides use. The system detects unpaid situations in real time and prompts customers on the screen. It runs inside a camera with a built-in VPU, requiring no additional PC or external server.

LG Electronics steps up companywide AI work innovation drive, selects 5 projects at hackathon
LG Electronics said it held its first-half AX hackathon to identify work-innovation tasks using AI. About 2,100 employees took part and submitted more than 700 ideas. After two months of screening and verification, the company selected five projects, including a 24-hour autonomous work system for software development. Other projects aim to automate packaging design, improve logistics and SCM analysis, cut administrative work time and generate advertising content.

Kurly to acquire AI firm 1Z Labs to speed up AX
Kurly is acquiring artificial intelligence solutions company 1Z Labs through a small share swap to strengthen its AI-driven competitiveness, it said in a filing on Sunday. The swap ratio is 1 to 1.8437990, and Kurly will issue 453,518 new common shares. The exchange date is Aug. 4, after which 1Z Labs will become Kurly’s wholly owned subsidiary. Kurly is pursuing company-wide AX and has named 1Z Labs CEO Kwak Keun-bong to head its AX Center.
