LG Electronics said on Tuesday it recently held a first-half "AX hackathon" and identified work-innovation tasks using AI.
About 2,100 employees took part in the hackathon and submitted more than 700 ideas. LG Electronics selected 5 projects after two months of screening and verification. The figure is more than four times the roughly 500 participants in the first hackathon in the first half of 2024.
Among the selected projects, a "24-hour fully autonomous work execution system" is a solution in which AI agents handle key steps in software development. It automates everything from receiving and classifying tasks to coding, testing and documentation. Internal verification suggests automation of nearly 80 percent of work could be possible, and it is expected to save more than 1,200 working hours per person annually.
A "product packaging design automation solution" cuts packaging design work that took an average of 120 hours to about 1.5 hours. AI handles tasks from 3D modeling to container-loading optimisation. A "logistics and SCM specialised solution" analyses nearly 100,000 logistics and shipping data points in real time to manage vessel schedule risks in advance. Data search and analysis time that took more than 3 hours is reduced to about 1 minute.
Other selected projects include an integrated work platform that reduces internal administrative processing time by more than 80 percent and an AI-based system to generate and propose advertising content. LG Electronics will expand the organisations using the 5 projects in stages after proof-of-concept work and will register them as sub-agents on its internal AI platform, LGenie, to drive companywide adoption.
