Grades drop as reliance on AI grows; asking for hints and explanations is OK
Students who studied with the help of artificial intelligence performed better in practice but recorded lower accuracy and response rates in the test phase, a study found. Researchers ran three experiments on fraction problems and SAT-style reading questions. In each, AI access was cut without warning when tests began, and the AI group’s scores fell while skipping increased. The biggest drop came from those asking AI for answers, while requesting hints or explanations had less impact.
