Chain- and gear-free \'pedal-by-wire\' e-bike drivetrain emerges
A new electric bicycle drivetrain has emerged that eliminates chains and gears and drives the wheels with electrical signals. Spain\'s startup Niche Mobility unveiled a prototype of its Advanced Digital Transmission System, which does not physically link the pedals to the rear wheel. Pedaling generates electricity that powers a separate drive motor, and the bike cannot move if the system is off. The company targets urban, trekking and cargo e-bikes, while challenges include efficiency and cost.
