Bluesky blocks 8,526 influence accounts over 1 year, targeting state-linked activity
Bluesky removed 8,526 state-involved influence-manipulation accounts over the past year, it said. It implemented the measures over the year since May 2025 and deleted 4,907 accounts since January 2026 alone. Bluesky said its removal pace in 2026 was about twice that of 2025, often deleting accounts within hours of their first post and limiting average views to about 50 before takedown. Many operations relied on hijacked existing accounts, including dormant ones. Bluesky urged strong unique passwords, password managers and two-factor authentication.

Google’s Threat Intelligence Group said a two-factor authentication bypass bug in a popular open-source web-based management platform was abused by criminals planning a large intrusion campaign. Google said it worked with the vendor to quietly deploy a patch before the campaign escalated and may have blocked the attack in advance.
