Korean game makers seek breakthrough on consoles as mobile growth slows
South Korean game companies are increasingly turning to consoles as growth in mobile games slows. A Korea Creative Content Agency report showed console game exports rose 15.1 percent in 2024 to $213.76 million, the fastest growth among platforms, while PC game exports fell. Recent sales successes, including Pearl Abyss’ Crimson Desert, have reinforced the shift. Companies are expanding multi-platform lineups, though revenue structures and long development cycles pose challenges.

KOCCA publishes 2025 Korea Game White Paper; game sales hit 23.9 trillion won
South Korea\'s Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism and the Korea Creative Content Agency published the 2025 Korea Game White Paper on Tuesday, summarising the domestic and global game industry in 2024. It put 2024 domestic game industry sales at 23.9 trillion won, up 3.9 percent from a year earlier, and exports at $8.53 billion, up 1.3 percent. Industry employment rose 3.1 percent to 87,576 people.
