[DigitalToday reporter Yoonseo Lee] Tether's stablecoin USDT has started service on the Stellar network.
On Sept. 2 (local time), blockchain media outlet U.Today reported that Stellar users can access $180 billion in USDT liquidity through USDT0.
The integration connects Stellar to Tether’s broad stablecoin liquidity. LayerZero’s OFT interoperability standard was applied for the connection. Stellar is a blockchain designed with digital asset transfers and cross-border payments in mind, and the addition of USDT dovetails with an expansion of its payments-focused ecosystem.
Stellar has recently put stablecoins, tokenised real-world assets (RWA) and institutional infrastructure at the centre of network activity. Stellar has expanded related businesses in succession this year. In June, MoneyGram launched MGUSD, a Stellar-based dollar-pegged stablecoin.
Major dollar-based digital assets are already established in the existing ecosystem. The Stellar network hosts a range of stablecoin and asset-issuance projects, including Circle’s USDC and Franklin Templeton’s BENJI. With the addition of USDT, the liquidity layer spanning payments, remittances and asset issuance has become thicker.
Network indicators also support this trend. Stellar said stablecoin payment volume in the first quarter of 2026 rose 72 percent from a year earlier to $5.5 billion. It also noted that shortly after the quarter ended, the amount of tokenised real-world assets on the network surpassed $2 billion.
The key point of USDT0 is that Stellar users can access the same USDT liquidity used on other connected networks. Stellar believes this structure can increase the network’s appeal to exchanges, wallets and other service providers. Early support includes Kraken, Fraighter, Lobstr, Bitget, Fireblocks, Ramp Network and SushiSwap.
Tether maintains strong influence in emerging markets such as Latin America, Africa and parts of the Asia-Pacific region. In these regions, adoption of stablecoins is rising rapidly as a means of saving, remittances and dollar-denominated payments. Stellar’s direct acceptance of USDT liquidity also aligns with its expansion strategy as a payments-specialised blockchain.
The integration is meaningful in that it adds Tether’s large-scale liquidity to Stellar’s payments and asset-tokenisation strategy. With access to USDT added to an ecosystem that already has stablecoins and asset-issuance projects, the range of network use has also broadened.
