Goldman Sachs Securities and CLSA Korea Securities will join alternative trading system (ATS) Nextrade (NXT). As more foreign brokerages take part, foreign investors are expected to expand their trading of South Korean stocks through Nextrade.

Nextrade said on Aug. 31 it approved membership applications on Aug. 28 from Goldman Sachs Securities Co’s Seoul branch and CLSA Korea Securities.

The two brokerages plan to complete related procedures, including building a smart order routing (SOR) system, within this year and then begin trading on Nextrade.

The addition lifts Nextrade’s member brokerages to a total of 38. In about 3 months since May, 5 foreign brokerages have newly joined as members.

Current members include foreign brokerages such as Merrill Lynch, Morgan Stanley and Macquarie, as well as Goldman Sachs and CLSA, along with major South Korean brokerages.

Foreigners’ share of trading on Nextrade is also rising. Based on trading value, foreigners’ share rose to 12.2 percent in December 2025 from 0.4 percent in March 2025.

This year, it expanded to 14.0 percent in July, following 11.0 percent in April, 12.3 percent in May and 12.8 percent in June. Over the same period, retail investors’ share fell to 82.0 percent from 86.4 percent, while institutions rose to 4.0 percent from 2.6 percent.

Kim Hak-su (김학수), Nextrade’s CEO, said, "With the membership of Goldman Sachs Securities and CLSA Korea Securities, global brokerages’ participation in Nextrade is becoming full-fledged," adding, "I expect it will serve as an opportunity to further improve conditions for foreign investors to trade South Korean stocks."
