Waymo and Zoox test drivers suffered more than 20 injuries in 2024 and 2025 from sudden movements by self-driving cars, including hard braking, TechCrunch reported on Aug. 30, citing 자료 submitted to the U.S. Occupational Safety and Health Administration.
Test drivers suffered whiplash and other injuries as vehicles stopped suddenly and forcefully, and some were unable to work for months.
The cases were confirmed mainly involving Waymo and Zoox, but it is difficult to conclude the problem is limited to those companies alone. Other self-driving developers’ test drivers may have suffered similar injuries, but depending on the company they could be excluded from Occupational Safety and Health Administration reporting requirements, TechCrunch reported.
Waymo also recently released 10 lessons it said it learned after its vehicles drove more than 200 million miles autonomously. Waymo said multiple sensors are essential and stressed the use of vision-language models. It also announced plans to enter Munich, Germany.
