[DigitalToday reporter Yoonseo Lee] Charles Hoskinson (찰스 호스킨슨), the founder of Cardano, publicly backed the possibility of technical cooperation between Cardano and Ethereum.
On Aug. 25, the blockchain media outlet The Crypto Basic reported that Hoskinson said both ecosystems could benefit if they share technological innovation, and that engineering-level collaboration is possible.
He said Ethereum's developer community should take a more open-minded look at technology Cardano has built over the past several years. He cited Cardano's approach to implementing new smart contract functions on a UTXO (unspent transaction output)-based blockchain, and said Ethereum developers could review it to secure new functions and strengthen interoperability between the two ecosystems.
Cardano also believes it could benefit if Ethereum adopts some of its technology. Hoskinson said that if such integration happens, developers' work across Cardano-related projects, including Midnight, could become more convenient.
Hoskinson said the two ecosystems would not need to exchange money or bring up past conflicts again to cooperate. He said recognising technological advances and showing willingness to collaborate would be enough. He also said Ethereum investors and developers should consider why the two communities cannot move in a direction of integrating Cardano's open-source technology together, and that if Ethereum developers work directly with Cardano engineers, they could develop needed functions within the next few months.
His remarks came as interest grows within Ethereum in UTXO-based design. Discussion accelerated after an Ethereum researcher in July made a proposal to review an extended UTXO (EUTXO) architecture payment design. The proposal also drew attention from the Cardano community because some concepts resembled design principles Cardano has already implemented through the EUTXO architecture.
Even so, there was friction over technical contributions during the process. Vitalik Buterin (비탈릭 부테린), Ethereum's co-founder, cited Bitcoin as the background for Ethereum's UTXO-based design and did not directly acknowledge Cardano's work. Hoskinson had responded critically at the time, citing that Cardano has long used the EUTXO model.
Still, the latest remarks are seen as a shift placing more weight on cooperation than before. Hoskinson is moving discussion toward using each other's technological progress rather than amplifying past disagreements over technical credit between the two ecosystems. As a result, attention is expected to focus on whether Ethereum's developer community will consider Cardano's open-source technology and its EUTXO-based approach as actual targets for collaboration.
