Coinbase-backed cryptocurrency advocacy group Stand With Crypto has picked 32 sitting federal lawmakers who voted for the Clarity bill last year as candidates it will support in November midterm elections.

On Aug. 24 local time, blockchain media outlet Cryptopolitan reported that the criterion for the endorsement list was effectively one thing: whether lawmakers supported the Clarity bill, which passed the House last year.

The move largely aims to elevate the Clarity bill, now pending in the Senate, into an election issue. The Clarity bill is legislation the cryptocurrency industry has named as its top priority. The industry sees it as able to provide legal clarity it has demanded for years, but the bill has failed to make progress in the Senate.

The bill passed the Senate Banking Committee in May but has since fallen into a deadlock at the floor stage. As opposition from some lawmakers has grown over the summer, it has halted just before final legislation. Stand With Crypto is calculating that sending House members who already voted yes back to Congress will lay the groundwork for legislation in the next session.

In an interview, the organisation's director Rinao said it focused in 2024 on proving that crypto voters exist, and said in 2026 it is showing organising capacity and supporters' ability to mobilise votes.

Stand With Crypto is a grassroots pro-cryptocurrency group launched by Coinbase in 2023. In May 2024 it created an affiliated political action committee and has since tested its influence in state primaries. In March this year it opened a voter hub that assesses lawmakers' digital asset holdings and disclosed an initial list of 6 endorsements. Rinao said at the time it aimed to make the 120th Congress "the most pro-cryptocurrency session in U.S. history".

The group says it can mobilise 2.7 million supporters. It said that in a survey of 1,000 cryptocurrency holders conducted in February, 59 percent of crypto holders and 77 percent of the group's voters do not consistently vote for a particular party. The Blockchain Leadership Fund, a bipartisan political action committee backed by Anchorage Digital and Chainlink, also released a 2026 endorsement list in May.

The endorsement has made lawmakers' voting records on the Clarity bill an assessment standard in the midterms. Key questions include whether the support base it says totals 2.7 million will actually turn into votes, and whether the re-election of pro-cryptocurrency lawmakers will translate into legislative momentum for the bill blocked in the Senate. Depending on the midterm results, the direction of cryptocurrency regulation in the next Congress is expected to change.
