Chips&Media has released a new product that adds advanced professional video processing technology to its Motion JPEG (MJPEG) semiconductor design assets. Chips&Media said on Wednesday it launched WAVE-JP, a next-generation design asset that integrates Advanced Professional Video (APV) functions into its existing WAVE-J architecture.

Chips&Media said the new product enables it to meet processing requirements in professional video in addition to existing JPEG processing performance. WAVE-JP is drawing interest mainly from customers seeking to strengthen the scalability and future readiness of high-resolution image processing pipelines.

WAVE-J, which underpins WAVE-JP, is a Motion JPEG IP provided as a standalone design asset. It differs from the common approach of integrating JPEG functions into a video processing unit (VPU), a large-scale video processing semiconductor. The company said SoC design firms can reduce silicon area and power consumption compared with integrated VPUs while securing image processing performance.

Since its launch in 2025, WAVE-J has increased its record of licensing supply to major global semiconductor and system companies. It supports images up to 64K x 64K resolution and a 128-bit AXI4 interface, and it has a four-product lineup that can be selected depending on silicon area and target performance.

A Chips&Media official said, "WAVE-J is a JPEG IP developed to meet market demand that has simultaneously required a lightweight structure, ultra-high performance and a standalone configuration." The official added, "We will continue to provide flexible, customer-tailored IP solutions so that global semiconductor companies can design innovative products across various platforms from edge to cloud."
