LG Uplus said on Aug. 18 it will team up with Mercedes-Benz Korea to install its self-developed real-time video channel service, Live TV+, in the new “The New S-Class.”

LG Uplus will serve as Mercedes-Benz Korea’s official software partner, taking charge of everything from service development to content provision and operations.

Live TV+ is a service that allows users to watch 28 broadcast channels in the vehicle. Users can access the desired channel immediately without separate account authentication. Content is delivered based on in-vehicle wireless communications rather than digital multimedia broadcasting (DMB). Users can also watch different channels on multiple displays inside the vehicle. LG Uplus also set up a Mercedes-Benz-only brand channel on Live TV+.

LG Uplus jointly developed a dedicated user experience (UX) optimised for Mercedes-Benz vehicles, based on its connected-car development and IPTV and mobile TV operations experience. Reflecting the characteristics of the latest in-vehicle infotainment system, MBUX, it simplified the screen layout and implemented fast channel search and screen switching functions depending on whether the vehicle is parked or stopped.

Through the partnership, LG Uplus was registered as an official software vendor after passing Mercedes-Benz technology, quality and security screenings. It plans to expand the application of Live TV+ to new models, starting with The New S-Class and including “The All-New Electric GLC.”

Bae Jun-hyung (배준형), head of LG Uplus’ Mobility Business TF, said, "This service is the result of implementing LG Uplus’ media operations capabilities to fit Mercedes-Benz’s environment." He added, "We will expand cooperation with global automakers and advance the service so we can provide a differentiated media experience inside the vehicle."
