KB Financial Group manages and operates 20.8 trillion won of ESG finance in environmental products, investments and loans as of end-2025. It plans to expand the amount to 25 trillion won by 2030 and reflect natural-capital risks and opportunities in financial decision-making.

KB Financial said on Sunday it published the "2025 KB Financial Group Natural Capital Disclosure Report - The Connection Between Nature and Finance" containing the details.

The report analysed the financial portfolio's dependence on and impact on natural capital, and related risks and opportunities, based on recommendations from the Taskforce on Nature-related Financial Disclosures (TNFD).

KB Financial said nature-related risks could arise through investments, loans and insurance, and it also reviewed exposure by industry.

Key targets of the analysis include collateralised loans for water treatment facilities, a youth housing construction project near station areas, the Bigeum residents' solar power generation project, and the Hanlim long-duration energy storage system (ESS) project. For the youth housing project near station areas, it examined potential impacts on natural capital and biodiversity that could occur during development, along with the effect of stabilising housing for young people and newlyweds.

KB Financial plans to expand the scale of its environmental ESG finance to 25 trillion won by 2030 and broaden areas of financial support to include water resource management, the circular economy, eco-friendly mobility and renewable energy.

A KB Financial official said, "As financial companies' portfolios are connected to a wide range of industries, changes in nature can be both a financial risk and a new opportunity," adding, "We will expand the role of finance."
