Apple's entry-level laptop, the follow-up to the MacBook Neo, is expected to come with 12GB of RAM next year. IT media outlet 9to5Mac reported on Aug. 13 that the MacBook Neo 2 may increase RAM to 12GB from the current 8GB and use an A19 Pro chip.
The MacBook Neo was released early this year with an A18 Pro chip and 8GB of RAM. It gained popularity for offering strong performance at a relatively low price, but its RAM capacity was cited as a drawback.
A boost in memory to 12GB from 8GB would be a 50 percent increase. The current MacBook Neo delivers enough performance for most tasks unless users do heavy video editing, app coding or run local AI models, but the RAM upgrade could be a noticeable improvement for users concerned about specification limits.
The higher memory is also expected to help support new AI features in macOS 27. Some features are said to require 12GB of memory. With an A19 Pro chip as well, the MacBook Neo 2 may be able to handle a broader range of tasks.
