Pearl Abyss posted a sharp rise in second-quarter results this year, helped by global sales performance of its new title 'Crimson Desert'. It adjusted its full-year outlook to reflect a drop in estimated average selling prices due to changes in sales channels and the timing of revenue recognition for physical packages.
Pearl Abyss said on Monday it recorded second-quarter consolidated revenue of 192.6 billion won, operating profit of 67.6 billion won and net profit of 70.9 billion won. Revenue rose 247.7 percent from a year earlier and operating profit jumped 7,411.1 percent, while net profit turned positive.
Crimson Desert led the performance. Second-quarter revenue by intellectual property totalled 136.1 billion won for Crimson Desert and 55.0 billion won for Black Desert. Overseas revenue accounted for 91 percent, and North America and Europe made up 75 percent of total revenue.
Pearl Abyss plans to build a long-term sales base by continuing to expand content, including updates reflecting user feedback and strengthening the storyline, after the release of Crimson Desert. It is preparing downloadable content for release within this year after reviewing content direction and completeness, and it is optimising performance for a Nintendo Switch 2 version targeted for release in the first half of 2027. It is also preparing a discount strategy for package sales.
The company forecast full-year consolidated revenue of 709.8 billion to 743.8 billion won and operating profit of 315.5 billion to 345.2 billion won. Its annual revenue outlook by IP is 239.0 billion to 244.6 billion won for Black Desert and 468.9 billion to 497.3 billion won for Crimson Desert, with other revenue of 1.9 billion won. The disclosed consolidated operating performance outlook of 709.8 billion won in revenue and 315.5 billion won in operating profit represents the minimum values of the expected ranges.
Changes to full-year guidance were influenced by Crimson Desert's sales structure and revenue recognition method. In the second quarter, the estimated average selling price fell from the previous quarter as the share of channels recognising only part of Crimson Desert sales amounts as revenue increased. The company also adjusted the annual outlook to reflect differences between the actual sales timing and revenue recognition timing for physical packages, and revenue deferral effects from refund guarantees.
The company will continue live services and content updates for its existing IP, Black Desert. To mark the 10th anniversary of Black Desert PC service in North America and Europe, Pearl Abyss held the '2026 Black Desert Heidel Ball' event in the United States and unveiled a second-half content roadmap including a new class, 'Agent', a region expansion for 'Edania Part 2', and a graphics technology update. It plans to continue content updates on mobile and console as well.
This year's results and full-year outlook were prepared on a continuing operations profit basis after classifying related subsidiaries as discontinued operations following the sale of its entire stake in Penris Creation, formerly CCP Games, in May.
