Apple may reintroduce a ceramic Apple Watch.

According to the IT outlet 9to5Mac on Aug. 9 local time, Bloomberg's Mark Gurman said Apple is preparing the return of a ceramic Apple Watch and the new model could go on sale as early as this year.

The ceramic Apple Watch was removed from the lineup after the 2019 "Apple Watch Edition Series 5". At the time, Apple used the "Edition" brand for higher-end models featuring premium materials, and ceramic was one of the flagship premium options. Gurman said Apple plans to bring back the ceramic Apple Watch, which had been widely loved.

The Apple Watch Series 11 is currently sold in two materials: aluminium and titanium. The Apple Watch Ultra uses only titanium. Prices also differ sharply by material. For Series 11, the titanium model starts at $699, while the cheapest base model costs $399. Given that structure, a ceramic model is likely to be placed at a higher price tier than existing titanium models.

Past cases also support that view. The Series 5 ceramic Apple Watch started at $1,299. Gurman also mentioned that the new ceramic watch could go on sale as early as this year. If Apple actually releases the product, it would add a premium-material axis again to Apple's Apple Watch materials strategy, which is currently centred on aluminium and titanium.

The key question is whether Apple will restore ceramic as a simple material option or reposition it as a separate higher-end product line. The Apple Watch lineup has so far been divided into the base model and Ultra, and the addition of a ceramic model could change the price band and consumer choice structure.

Ceramic is particularly symbolic because it was a material Apple previously applied to the Edition brand. Apple currently uses aluminium and titanium for Series 11 and only titanium for Ultra. If ceramic returns in this situation, it could be seen as a signal of renewed segmentation of premium Apple Watch demand, going beyond a simple expansion of materials.

However, the report focused on the possibility and timing of a launch, past price bands and the current material lineup. It has not yet been confirmed how Apple will decide the ceramic model's product name, detailed specifications, sales regions and pricing policy. For now, the key variable is whether Apple will bring back to the market the ceramic Apple Watch that it halted for some time.
