[Digital Today reporter Ho-jeong Lee] Pearl Abyss said on Aug. 10 it has been invited to the developer conference Gamescom Dev 2026 in Cologne, Germany, on Aug. 24 local time and will give a talk on Crimson Desert development technology.

The lecture is titled "Crimson Desert: The process of bringing the vast continent of Pywel to life and large-scale open-world production technology based on a proprietary engine." Ahn Geun-tae (안근태), head of the art level office, Kim Jin-hwan (김진환), head of the game engine graphics office, and Yoon Jin-ho (윤진호), head of the game engine graphics office, will participate as speakers.

The talk is set to share the process of building the Pywel continent for Crimson Desert, its open-world environment design approach, its production automation pipeline, and know-how for designing regions based on real terrain.

It will also cover large-scale open-world production technology using Pearl Abyss' proprietary development engine, the BlackSpace Engine. It is set to reveal real-time world implementation, methods for expressing distance and atmosphere, approaches to delivering environmental density, and the process of placing objects and vegetation through a procedural production pipeline.

Crimson Desert posted global cumulative sales of 6 million copies in the 3 months since its release. It ranked No. 2 in cumulative video game sales in the United States this year based on Circana, and recorded the top spot in Steam revenue among new intellectual property this year based on Alinea Analytics tabulations.

Pearl Abyss plans to attend Gamescom 2026 with Samsung Electronics from Aug. 26 to 30, following its participation in Gamescom Dev.
