[DigitalToday reporter Jinju Hong (홍진주)] Binance is expanding its tokenised stock product lineup, bStocks, stepping up moves to link traditional finance and the cryptocurrency market. It has newly added 10 tokenised products to its spot market that track share prices of major companies including ASML, Netflix and Super Micro Computer.

CoinPost, a blockchain media outlet, reported on Aug. 5 local time that Binance listed a total of 10 bStocks items on its spot market that day. The new listings include Astera Labs, ASML, AST SpaceMobile, Bitmine Immersion Technologies, Coherent, Credo Technology Group, IREN Ltd, Netflix, Super Micro Computer and USA Rare Earths.

The newly added bStocks can be traded on Binance's spot market, and each item also supports spot algorithmic trading bot services. The listing time is 1200 UTC on Aug. 5.

Binance will also provide fee benefits to boost trading activity immediately after the new listings. Users can trade without fees if they convert bStocks into supported assets such as bitcoin (BTC) or USDT during the first hour after listing.

It will also run a zero maker-fee campaign for all newly listed bStocks items. The period runs from the listing time through 2359 UTC on Aug. 31. Binance appears to have prepared these benefits to secure initial liquidity and expand user participation.

It will also offer a conversion function for existing shareholders. Users can convert spot shares of the target companies into bStocks at a one-to-one ratio, and no separate fees are charged in the process.

Still, bStocks differ from typical stock investment products. Investors do not directly own the companies' actual shares, as the products are tokenised instruments linked to share price movements.

Binance explained bStocks as "a tokenised product linked to the share price of the target company, and it does not involve directly holding the target company's shares."

As a result, bStocks holders can expect investment exposure tied to price fluctuations of companies such as ASML and Netflix, but they do not have traditional shareholder rights such as voting rights or dividends.

This step is seen as a move by a cryptocurrency exchange to broaden access to major U.S. stock market names and respond to the trend of converting real-world assets into blockchain-based tokens, known as real-world assets (RWA).

As attempts in the financial sector expand to trade traditional assets such as stocks, bonds and real estate on blockchain, Binance also appears to have entered competition to preempt the tokenised asset market.

Still, the market points to key variables for broader adoption, including what legal differences tokenised stocks have versus actual shares and whether trading liquidity and investor protection systems are sufficiently in place. Attention is on how much Binance's listing can draw demand from cryptocurrency users for access to traditional stocks.
