Amazon Web Services (AWS) has launched Kiro Crew, an autonomous workspace in which AI coding agents keep working even while developers are away.

SiliconANGLE reported on Monday, local time, that Kiro Crew is designed to assign multi-step work to multiple agents and sub-agents, and to delay developer intervention until review is needed.

Kiro Crew also handles repetitive tasks on a scheduled basis. The system continuously checks its status through "heartbeat" monitoring and is set up so developers only need to look when review is required.

Kiro Crew is based on AWS' Kiro development environment. Kiro is an agentic AI development tool that helps software engineers quickly turn ideas into deployable code. While the existing "autonomous mode" handled individual tasks within a single session, Kiro Crew continues operating regardless of whether a developer is connected and retains memory across sessions. It also supports schedule-based tasks and coordination among multiple specialist agents.

Kiro Crew can also immediately read Kiro configurations that users have already built. This makes it possible to reuse existing setups from the coding environment, including adjustment files, skills and custom agents.

AWS explained that Kiro Crew was designed to carry user preferences, the context of ongoing projects and relevant history into new sessions as well. Developers can decide which information continues to be carried over.

Kiro Crew runs in both local and remote environments. Developers can view and control chats, files, approvals, memory, schedules and apps in one place through the app and a web dashboard. The same workflow can also be continued through chat interfaces such as Slack, Telegram and Discord.

AWS also offers an "Apps" interface. Developers can connect their own tools there to add a user interface and structure suited to each process. Ha

Kiro Crew also supports external extensions. Developers using open-standard-based platforms such as OpenKlo and Hermes can bring existing skills and settings into Kiro Crew and use them together. The macOS app can be downloaded directly or installed from a GitHub repository, which also includes setup instructions for Linux and Windows 11 and integration guides for Slack, Telegram and WeCom.
