[Digital Today reporter Chi-gyu Hwang (황치규)] Ripple has made strategic investments in UK-based Zylo and Liquido. Cointelegraph reported on Aug. 3 that the move aims to build a structure on XRPL that allows tokenised funds to be used as collateral from the issuance stage.
Through the investment, Ripple plans to introduce regulated transfer agency functions, issuance and collateral mobility on XRPL. It is focusing on reducing idle collateral and widening the scope for using tokenised financial assets.
Zylo provides global transfer agency asset solutions for asset managers. Liquido is a tokenisation solutions company regulated by the UK Financial Conduct Authority.
The investment is an extension of Ripple's strategy to expand tokenised assets. Last month, Ripple launched a platform called Ripple Mint that allows institutions to access, issue, redeem and manage its dollar-pegged stablecoin, Ripple USD (RLUSD).
Real tokenised products are also emerging on XRPL. London-based asset manager Aviva Investors, after receiving approval from the Central Bank of Ireland, launched a tokenised share class of a U.S. dollar liquidity fund on XRPL.
According to RWA.xyz, tokenised real-world assets on XRPL total $368 million, ranking 11th among blockchain networks. Ethereum ranks first with $17.1 billion.
