Ripple has reduced the amount of XRP that will enter the market to 300 million by redepositing 700 million XRP into escrow ahead of a planned 1 billion XRP unlock this month. The move is seen as aimed at easing supply pressure, and attention is focused on whether it could affect XRP's seasonal weakness trend.

U.Today, a blockchain media outlet, reported on Aug. 2 that Ripple on Aug. 1 redeposited 200 million XRP and 500 million XRP into escrow in two separate transactions. That put a total of 700 million XRP back under lock.

The system then unlocked a total of 1 billion XRP as scheduled in three tranches of 500 million XRP, 300 million XRP and 200 million XRP. As a result, 700 million of the unlocked amount was tied back up in escrow, leaving about 300 million XRP as new supply to the market.

Ripple has managed supply by releasing 1 billion XRP from escrow each month and then redepositing the remainder after setting aside the amount needed. This time, it drew attention for redepositing 700 million XRP before the unlock, easing market concerns about selling in advance.

The market is interpreting the move as a signal aimed at reducing supply pressure. U.Today said that instead of the large-scale release investors had feared, only limited liquidity was actually supplied to the market, and placed significance on lowering supply pressure in early August, which is often seasonally weak.

Past statistics show August is considered an unfavorable period for XRP. Over the past 13 years, XRP's median August return was -6.15 percent, and the average return was only 0.54 percent. Over the past three years, it ended August down each time, posting -26.6 percent in August 2023, -9.17 percent in 2024 and -8.15 percent in 2025.

Still, price action in early August this year looks somewhat different from the past. XRP formed a short-term low at $1.0480 late on Aug. 1 and then rebounded, holding around $1.0818. U.Today assessed that XRP is showing the possibility of breaking away from its past seasonal weakness pattern.

Monthly returns are also staying positive. After rising 2.11 percent in July, XRP is currently up about 1.93 percent in August as well. An analysis says the decision to redeposit 700 million XRP ahead of the unlock contributed in part to lowering short-term selling pressure on the supply side.

Market participants are watching the $1.0480 to $1.0600 range as a key support level. If that price zone continues to act as support through August, the likelihood of overcoming seasonal weakness could increase, but if the support breaks, some expect a return of the same weak trend seen in the past.
