RippleX’s head of engineering said the number of agent-style transactions on the XRP Ledger is likely to rise rapidly after recently surpassing 1 million.

According to a recent report by The Block, Ayo Akinyele (아요 아킨옐레), head of engineering at RippleX, said, "I was very happy to see the XRP Ledger cross the 1 million milestone, but considering the pace of agent development and infrastructure improvements, I think it will comfortably exceed 10 million and could reach 100 million within the next few years."

Agent-style payments refer to transactions initiated by AI software on behalf of humans rather than being approved one by one by people.

Interest in the technology is also growing as developers accelerate efforts to make real scenarios in which AI agents autonomously pay for data, computing power and other service costs needed to perform tasks.

Akinyele said, "The key is to allow AI agents to pay for APIs and digital services on the XRP Ledger without friction." He said it has advantages, including settlement speed of 3 to 5 seconds, predictable transaction costs and being designed for payments from the start.

Ripple is one of the major companies that recently joined the x402 Foundation. Ripple participates as a top-tier member of the x402 Foundation along with Coinbase, Circle, AWS, Google, Mastercard, Stripe and Visa. x402, first developed by Coinbase, supports AI agents and applications to automatically pay for online services such as APIs.

Akinyele added, "The relationship with the x402 Foundation is strategically important because we can build governance and the technical aspects of developing the agent economy together."
