[DigitalToday reporter Chi-gyu Hwang] Swiss cantonal bank BancaStato has started a regulation-based service that allows customers to buy, sell and store four cryptocurrencies, including bitcoin, on its existing web and mobile banking app.

According to a recent Cointelegraph report, BancaStato launched the service by linking Signum’s trading and custody service with the Avaloq banking system.

BancaStato customers can now trade and hold bitcoin, ether, litecoin and solana in the existing bank app. Signum’s trading and custody functions have been integrated into BancaStato’s existing Avaloq system.

Through the integration, Signum’s API was connected directly to the Avaloq platform. This enables cryptocurrency transactions to be handled through existing digital banking channels without a separate order management system, and also reduces operational complexity.

BancaStato, which serves the Italian-speaking Ticino region of Switzerland, has joined Signum’s B2B banking platform. Using the platform, BancaStato is among more than 25 financial institutions providing regulated digital asset services.

Fritz Jost (프리츠 요스트), Signum’s head of B2B, said BancaStato is the first bank using the Avaloq software-as-a-service platform to support buying, holding and selling cryptocurrencies on its digital banking platform via Signum’s API.
