Coinbase’s Ethereum layer-2 network Base is preparing to launch 1-to-1 collateral-backed tokenised stocks. Cointelegraph reported on July 21 that Base founder Jesse Pollak (제시 폴락) said on social media platform X that the launch is imminent.
Pollak said the recently launched Ethereum layer-2 Robinhood Chain properly implemented tokenised stocks in an Ethereum Virtual Machine environment. He also acknowledged that Base had fallen behind in the area.
When Garrett Scroggin (개럿 스크로비나), fintech lead at Laser Technologies, asked when Base would launch 1-to-1 collateral-backed stocks, Pollak said he was finalising details and would launch very soon.
Base is shifting from its existing social-focused strategy to a focus on financial applications. Pollak has previously said it was a wrong choice to prioritise creators, content and messaging apps.
Base is currently focusing on trading, payments, AI agents and tokenised assets. Cointelegraph said the tokenised stock launch is part of an expansion of financial services in line with the strategy shift.
