BitPay has received approval from the Netherlands Authority for the Financial Markets, allowing it to operate in EU member states under the MiCA framework. Cointelegraph reported on July 16 that BitPay secured a Crypto Asset Service Provider (CASP) licence under MiCA requirements.

The approval allows BitPay to expand cryptocurrency and stablecoin payment services in Europe.

Jonathan Raller (조너선 알러), BitPay’s head of Europe, said Europe is one of the most important regions for the future of payments.

To obtain MiCA approval, Europe’s crypto industry has been seeking approvals even before the rules took effect on July 1.

Ripple also announced last week that it had secured a CASP licence from Luxembourg’s financial authorities.
