Kakao released on July 16 a video series, “Kanana Original,” on its official YouTube channel to introduce the capabilities of its in-house omnimodal artificial intelligence model, “Kanana-o.”

The campaign consists of 3 episodes in talk show, recital and vlog formats. Performers appear in each theme and hold natural conversations with Kanana-o, designed to help viewers understand AI technology in a familiar way.

Kanana-o, which the series highlights, is Kakao’s in-house omnimodal AI model unveiled in May last year. It understands text, voice and images at the same time and generates accurate answers in real time. It has strengths in understanding Korean context compared with global models, enabling natural and rich expression like a person.

Kanana-o also has functions such as various speaking styles and rich utterance ability, multi-turn dialogue and podcast-style content creation, and the series demonstrates those technologies.

The videos are divided into 3 themes. In “Close Friends,” a talk show concept episode, rapper Nucksal and comedian Kwak Beom (곽범) appear to explain the AI’s functions through light daily conversations and games, including KakaoTalk customized reply suggestions, photo analysis and witty title writing.

In the “Literature” episode featuring comedian Yoo Byung-jae (유병재) and Minumsa editor Kim Min-kyung (김민경), Kanana-o creates poems that fit given themes and recognizes a study image to analyze reading preferences. It also shows functions such as reading aloud passages from books by capturing emotion and context, or changing the ending of a famous work into a new story.

In the “K-Travel” episode, broadcaster Jonathan (조나단) and Kanana-o visit places where people can experience Korean culture and history in a vlog format. It shows the model’s strengths by analyzing images of historical sites and providing in-depth explanations.

Kakao will also hold a participation event for viewers of each video and plans to provide prizes such as books introduced in the videos and props used.

A Kakao official said, “This Kanana Original video series was planned to unpack AI technology that can be easily used in everyday life and to allow people to naturally experience the functions and strengths of the Kanana AI model.” The official added, “We will continue to communicate closely with users about Kanana’s capabilities in various ways.”
