[DigitalToday reporter Chi-gyu Hwang] British fintech company Revolut has limited the end of support for Tether stablecoin USDT to the European Economic Area (EEA) and Switzerland. Cointelegraph reported on July 9 (local time) that there is no change to its USDT support policy in other markets.
The move does not apply to all users worldwide. Revolut said it decided to halt USDT support for EEA customers to reflect regulatory changes under the European Union’s MiCA crypto rules and its risk review.
Revolut earlier notified some European users that it plans to delist USDT from its platform by Aug. 31, 2026. It has already removed USDT from its EEA trading platform, Revolut X, and the measure completes the process of removing USDT from EEA retail services.
The decision came as crypto platforms in Europe have been gradually excluding USDT after MiCA took effect. Tether, the stablecoin issuer with a market capitalisation of $184 billion, did not apply for authorisation under the MiCA framework.
Revolut has also not disclosed a list of countries where it provides crypto services. Revolut began offering crypto trading services in 2017 and expanded its crypto services to EEA countries in 2024.
