MoonPay has begun supporting use of its artificial intelligence (AI) crypto assistant MoonAgents on Telegram.
On July 9 (local time), blockchain media outlet Decrypt reported that users can ask in natural language in a message chat window for tasks such as market analysis, dashboard creation and trade preparation.
The integration focuses on expanding the use of the existing MoonAgents desktop app. Kevin Ariffin (케빈 아리핀), MoonPay’s chief product officer for agents, said the company linked Telegram so users can analyse markets or prepare trades even when they are away, since the desktop app is tied to a computer.
The setup uses Telegram as the interface while keeping actual data and private keys on users’ computers. Users can create a custom bot via Telegram’s bot-building tool BotFather and then connect it to the MoonAgents desktop app. They can then ask the agent for market analysis, prepare draft trades and have it monitor blockchain activity.
MoonPay did not cite only Telegram’s high usage among crypto users as the reason for choosing it. Ariffin said Telegram’s interface for creating new AI bots is very strong, and explained that other messaging services such as WhatsApp and iMessage require additional system settings to build similar integrations.
MoonAgents is designed not to be dependent on Telegram. All chat logs are stored on the user’s computer, and even if Telegram can no longer be used, conversations can continue in the desktop app.
The launch also aligns with a trend of AI agents directly connecting to digital assets and online services. In April, Google Gemini released Agentic Trading, which allows users to connect AI models such as ChatGPT and Claude to execute trading strategies. In June, Coinbase launched Coinbase for Agents, which lets AI agents trade crypto, make payments and manage portfolios within user-set limits.
In addition, Nous Research unveiled a desktop version of Hermes Agent in June. MoonPay’s design was also influenced by projects such as OpenClaw and Hermes Agent showing how AI assistants can operate outside conventional chatbots. Ariffin said such cases redefined the user experience of large language models (LLMs) that can access a computer.
MoonPay’s Telegram integration can be seen as expanding a desktop-based AI agent to an external touchpoint rather than using a messenger simply as a channel. As a result, a key point to watch in competition among crypto AI tools is likely to be how they combine expanded conversational interfaces with asset-control structures.
