Synology said on Tuesday it has launched the 1U "ActiveProtect Appliance DP5200" and expanded its ActiveProtect lineup targeting data-protection demand from small and medium-sized businesses.

The company said the DP5200 offers workload management and AI-based security features in a single, compact design. The DP5200 supports up to 36TB in a 1U form factor and also provides ActiveProtect Manager (APM) enterprise backup functions.

It protects virtualisation platforms such as VMware vSphere and Microsoft Hyper-V, as well as physical infrastructure including Windows and Linux servers, Windows PCs and macOS. It also supports SaaS applications such as Microsoft 365, Oracle and Microsoft SQL databases, SMB, and file servers based on NetApp and Nutanix. In APM 2.0, which will be released later, support will also be added for Azure VMs, Amazon EC2, Nutanix AHV, Proxmox VE and Google Workspace.

Jia Yu Liu (지아유 리우), vice president of Synology's data protection business division, said, "Companies are finding it difficult to find data protection solutions that can scale to fit their environments without increasing costs and operational complexity." Liu said, "The DP5200 is designed as a space-efficient integrated solution that small and medium-sized businesses can deploy easily."
