Naver Pay has enabled users to access Incheon International Airport's facial recognition departure service, Smartpass, through the Npay app. By registering facial data, a passport and a boarding pass in advance, travellers can pass quickly through departure screening and some boarding gates using facial recognition.

Naver Pay said on June 29 it has opened the Incheon International Airport facial recognition departure service Smartpass.

Smartpass is a service that allows users to pass through Incheon International Airport departure screening, boarding gates and other checkpoints using facial recognition after pre-registering facial data, a passport and a boarding pass. Any South Korean national aged 7 or older can use it, and those aged 7 to 14 need consent from a legal guardian.

After registering Smartpass for the first time in the Npay app, users can access the service by registering only their boarding pass before departure. Users who have already registered Npay's facial recognition access and authentication service FaceSign only need to add their passport and boarding pass.

After completing registration, users can pass through the dedicated Smartpass line at Incheon International Airport departure screening and facial recognition at some boarding gates of participating airlines, including Korean Air, Asiana Airlines, Air Seoul, Eastar Jet, Jeju Air and Jin Air, without taking out a passport or boarding pass.

To mark the service launch, Naver Pay will run a promotion through August to give 3,000 won in Npay points to customers who register Smartpass and passport information in the Npay app.

Hyang-cheol Lee (이향철), head leader for Npay Pay Service, said he expects FaceSign's application to the Smartpass service to provide a faster and more convenient experience for airport users during the summer vacation season. He said the company will expand the service to make it available in more places.
