KakaoPay received a commendation from the minister of Science and ICT for contributing to efforts to narrow the digital information gap among seniors and promote an inclusive financial culture.

KakaoPay said on June 18 it won the ministerial commendation in the government awards for contributions to information culture at an event held on June 17 at Nuriccum Square's international conference hall in Seoul's Mapo district to mark the 39th Information Culture Month ceremony.

KakaoPay has operated senior classes under the 'SagakSagak Pay School' program since 2023 with Kakao Impact and the Senior Financial Education Council. It currently provides tailored training at 50 welfare centers nationwide for older adults, including how to use digital finance apps, credit management and financial fraud prevention.

The training is delivered by senior financial education instructors in their 50s and 60s, known as 'Payteachers', who were trained by KakaoPay and teach on site. The company was evaluated as having lowered psychological barriers for trainees through a mutually supportive model in which seniors help seniors.

A KakaoPay official said, "It is meaningful to be recognized for the efforts we have continued so that seniors are not left out in a rapidly changing digital finance environment." The official added, "We will continue to expand financial education so that everyone can enjoy the benefits of digital finance safely and conveniently."
