The Telecommunications Technology Association (TTA) said on Tuesday it signed a memorandum of understanding on June 16 in Kuala Lumpur with Malaysia's standards body MTSFB (Malaysian Technical Standards Forum Bhd) to cooperate on ICT standardisation.

MTSFB is a technical standards development body in the ICT, broadcasting and multimedia sectors designated by the Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission (MCMC). Under the agreement, the two organisations will share standardisation roadmaps and jointly develop standards in key digital technology areas including artificial intelligence (AI), quantum, the internet of things (IoT) and next-generation communications.

They will also coordinate responses at international and regional standardisation meetings such as the International Telecommunication Union (ITU) and the Asia-Pacific Telecommunity (APT). They will strengthen standards-based testing and certification capabilities and expand cooperation to joint policy research and international cooperation projects in the future.

TTA currently has cooperative ties with about 35 international and regional standardisation bodies worldwide. Starting with cooperation with Malaysia, which has recently expanded its standardisation activities at bodies including the ITU and the International Organization for Standardization (ISO), TTA will strengthen its ASEAN regional standardisation network.

TTA Chairman Seung-hyun Son (손승현) said, "This agreement will serve as an opportunity to strengthen cooperation between the two countries in standards for key new technologies such as AI and quantum." He added, "We will expand solidarity with ASEAN countries on the international standardisation stage and enhance global standards leadership."
