Business data platform company Coocon plans to expand its existing data API business into products based on MCP (Model Context Protocol) to target the era of artificial intelligence (AI) agents. It aims to tap corporate demand for AI transformation by offering data from finance, the public sector, logistics and telecommunications in a form AI agents can use.
Coocon said on Sunday it is pushing ahead in earnest with an MCP-based data business to target the AI agent era.
MCP is a communications standard that standardises connection methods so AI agents can query and use external data and systems. As the AI industry is reshaping around agents that interact with external systems at a user's instruction, the importance of linking data and services is also growing.
Coocon plans to convert its existing data APIs into an MCP server format and strengthen its role as a data hub dedicated to AI agents. Based on more than 20 years of experience collecting and connecting data across finance, the public sector, logistics and telecommunications, it aims to help AI agents use reliable external data in a stable way.
To that end, Coocon will open an "AI-use data" section on its business data platform Coocon.net in July. It will first introduce about 30 MCP products, expand to about 100 within the year, and provide all products in MCP format in stages through 2027.
Coocon expects companies will be able to use external data needed for AI agents in a standardised way on Coocon.net without integrating each source individually.
The MCP-based data business is also expected to affect diversification of Coocon's revenue structure. If AI agents repeatedly call external data in the process of automating tasks, data usage may increase and AI-specific data products could become a new source of revenue.
Coocon's business structure, which provides both data and payment services, could also be used in the AI agent market. Coocon plans to expand products that AI agents can use in payments as well, linking them with domestic and overseas payment businesses.
Coocon Chief Executive Jong-hyun Kim (김종현) said, "The key in the AI era is for agents to reach data they can trust." He said, "Coocon's business structure that spans data and payments on the industry standard of MCP will become a stepping stone toward the global AI agent ecosystem. The MCP data business that will become visible in the second half will be Coocon's new growth engine."
