[DigitalToday reporter Ji-young Lee (이지영)] The Personal Information Protection Commission and the Korea Internet & Security Agency (KISA) held a field meeting to share results from pushing the MyData system and discuss ways to use personal information safely.

The commission on May 29 held a "MyData field meeting" in Cheongju Osco in North Chungcheong province with related ministries, public institutions, research institutes, economic organisations and companies participating in MyData. It introduced the operating status of the MyData system across all sectors and its future policy direction.

The meeting was arranged to share achievements of the MyData system, check the status of efforts to identify services that people can feel, and provide guidance on key functions of the support platform. It also provided guidance on a policy for using pseudonymised information and support measures for safe use of personal information.

The commission has been fully implementing the MyData system across sectors since March last year, centred on the healthcare and telecommunications sectors. Based on that, services have been launched including Kakao Healthcare's medication assistant service, the Korea Telecommunications Operators Association (KTOA)'s telecommunications plan recommendation service and Mediage's personalised health management service.

From this year, the scope will be expanded to include the energy sector, and efforts are under way to launch services closely tied to people's daily lives. They include NICE Information Service's energy MyData-linked credit evaluation service, Banksalad's chronic disease prevention and management service and Soldoc's healthcare MyData-based clinical support service.

It also introduced key functions of the OnMyData platform, which allows people to view, download or delete their personal information in one place.

The meeting also collected opinions on ways to revitalise the MyData system and difficulties in the field. In addition, one-on-one customised consulting was held to support preparations to designate around 10 companies, including Toss and Hyundai Green Food, as specialised institutions for personal information management.

Vice Chairman Jeong-ryeol Lee (이정렬) said safe use of personal information through MyData is key infrastructure for realising people's data sovereignty in the era of a major transition to artificial intelligence. He said the commission will expand MyData services that people can feel so personal information can be used for AI technological innovation and growth while being protected safely.
