Apple has raised the starting price of the Mac mini from $599 to $799. Business Insider reported on Thursday that the $599 base model with 256 GB of storage has been removed from Apple’s website, making the lowest-priced Mac mini a $799 model with 512 GB of storage.

The price of the same 512 GB model has not risen. But with the cheapest model gone, the entry price to buy a Mac mini is $200 higher. Internet Archive records show Apple listed the Mac mini starting price at $599 until earlier this week.

In South Korea, the 256 GB Mac mini model has also disappeared for online orders, and the cheapest option is a 1.19 million won model with an M4 chip, 16 GB RAM and 512 GB of storage.

Apple said on its quarterly earnings conference call this week that demand for the Mac mini has increased due to AI-related demand, but supply is not keeping up. Chief Executive Tim Cook (팀 쿡) described the Mac mini as an amazing platform for AI and agent tools, and said customer awareness spread faster than expected, pushing demand above expectations.

Earlier this year, demand rose further as technology enthusiasts sought the Mac mini as equipment to run OpenClaw, an open-source autonomous AI agent. OpenClaw was previously called ClawDBBot.

Apple said it could take several months for supply and demand for the Mac mini to come back into balance. Apple did not respond to a separate request for comment.
