OpenAI has launched a new program to strengthen security for ChatGPT accounts, TechCrunch reported on April 30 local time.

OpenAI introduced "Advanced Account Security" (AAS), which is available by application. OpenAI said it was designed mainly for people in high-risk jobs, but anyone can sign up.

Digital security firm Yubico said it is working with OpenAI and also announced two security keys that link to ChatGPT accounts: "YubiKey C NFC" and "YubiKey C Nano". Both products will be launched as co-branded offerings with OpenAI.

A security key is a small hardware device that plugs into a computer's USB port. A unique encrypted identifier is stored on the key, and only the person who has it can log into the linked account. Yubico CEO Jerrod Chong (제로드 청) said the goal is to reduce the threat of unauthorised access to sensitive data across OpenAI accounts worldwide.

The partnership comes as phishing threats grow among chatbot users. Applying a security key strengthens account security, but if the key is lost, OpenAI cannot help recover the account, TechCrunch said.
