South Korea's Ministry of Science and ICT is stepping up internal work innovation by using artificial intelligence (AI) agents, after holding a workshop.

The ministry held a "Work Innovation Workshop with AI Agents" on Wednesday. It was designed for staff at the Ministry of Science and ICT, the lead government department on AI policy, to learn the technology directly to improve work efficiency and raise the completeness of policy work.

On the day, staff including Second Vice Minister Ryu Je-myung (류제명) practiced the actual process of developing administrative services. In the first session, Ryu Seung-in (류승인), a senior official at the Gwangjin district office in Seoul, presented a case of developing work automation services using vibe coding.

In the second session, participants conducted a vibe-coding practice session with IT YouTuber JoCoding (조동근), who has 730,000 subscribers. Attendees tried developing customised AI agents such as an automated collector of trends at international organisations related to AI and a reply generator for responses to major organisations and experts.

The workshop was also livestreamed online through an internal ministry channel, providing all staff with an opportunity to strengthen AI development and use capabilities. The ministry is also working to innovate the way it works based on AI by holding AI brown-bag seminars, launching a staff-led AI development team called AI Sapiens and switching reporting methods using AI collaboration tools.

Ryu said, "Starting with the Ministry of Science and ICT, the lead department on AI policy, we must innovate the way we work with AI." He added, "We will continue to roll out activities to enhance capabilities and understanding of AI."
