[DigitalToday reporter Oh Sang-yeop (오상엽)] The KOSPI on Tuesday moved above the 6,400 level and reset its record high in a day.
The KOSPI closed up 29.46 points, or 0.46 percent, at 6,417.93 from the previous session. The index opened down 0.90 points, or 0.01 percent, at 6,387.57 but later turned higher and set a new record high.
By investor type, retail investors led the rise to a new peak with net purchases of 1.2388 trillion won. Foreign investors and institutions, which bought more than 2 trillion won a day earlier, posted net sales of 674.9 billion won and 447.0 billion won, respectively, as they moved to take profits.
Top market-cap stocks were mixed. Samsung Electronics closed down 0.68 percent at 217,500 won and SK Hynix fell 0.08 percent to end at 1,223,000 won. Hyundai Motor fell 0.92 percent and Samsung Biologics slid 1.70 percent.
LG Energy Solution rose 1.36 percent, Hanwha Aerospace gained 1.80 percent, SK Square added 0.28 percent and Doosan Enerbility rose 0.17 percent. HD Hyundai Heavy Industries jumped 11.28 percent in a double-digit surge, overtaking Kia to rank 10th by market value.
The KOSDAQ also ended up 2.09 points, or 0.18 percent, at 1,181.12.
The won-dollar exchange rate ended at 1,476.90 won, down 5.10 won from the previous session.
