[DigitalToday reporter Chi-gyu Hwang (황치규)] Omnichain stablecoin USDT0 will expand to Tempo, a payments-focused layer 1 blockchain jointly developed by Stripe and Paradigm, The Block reported on March 26. USDT0 is an omnichain version of USDT, the largest stablecoin.

The USDT0 token is issued based on LayerZero’s omnichain fungible token standard and is pegged 1:1 with USDT. It can move between networks without a separate bridge through a lock-and-mint and burn mechanism.

USDT0 surpassed $700 in cumulative transaction volume within 12 months of its launch in early last year. In February, USDT issuer Tether made a strategic investment in LayerZero Labs.

Tempo is the 23rd blockchain USDT0 is entering. USDT0 is currently deployed on the Ethereum mainnet and major layer 2 networks, new chains such as Monad and Hyperliquid, Bitcoin scaling layers, and USDT-focused networks such as Stable and Plasma.

Tempo is a layer 1 that aims for high throughput and low fees and comes with an automated market maker that supports stablecoin swaps at the protocol level. Lorenzo R., a co-founder of USDT0, said, "With USDT0 going live on Tempo, dollar liquidity is creating a connected system that moves quickly and freely, predictably, across major chains."
