KB Kookmin Bank said on Sunday it will announce at MWC26, the world’s largest mobile exhibition to be held in Barcelona, Spain on March 2 local time, a strategic collaboration model with LG Uplus for an “AI-based, finance-telecom real-time cooperation system to respond to voice phishing.”

The cooperation aims to flesh out KB Kookmin Bank’s strategy to upgrade its voice phishing monitoring system and strengthen its real-time response framework.

In particular, the cooperation system to be demonstrated at MWC26 implements a future-oriented model in which KB Kookmin Bank’s upgraded voice phishing monitoring system is linked in real time with the voice phishing prevention service in LG Uplus’ AI call app ixi-O.

If suspected signs of voice phishing are detected at the telecom stage, relevant information is immediately delivered to KB Kookmin Bank’s monitoring system. The bank then freezes payments on the account or switches it to an intensive monitoring stage.

KB Kookmin Bank’s envisioned next-generation security model focuses on prevention in advance. It aims to block at the source the possibility of financial damage by having the telecom company and the bank work in an integrated way at the moment a criminal deceives a victim and induces a transfer.

A KB Kookmin Bank official said, “Based on cooperation between the two companies, we expect we will be able to increase the response speed needed to block voice phishing.” The official added, “We will continue to build an innovative security infrastructure to protect financial consumers.”
