Coupang said on Tuesday it will run the "Energy-saving shopping that starts on Coupang" promotion for a month from April 1 in its "Good Shop" section, a dedicated channel for cooperation with small merchants. It said the event is intended to promote products from South Korean small and medium-sized companies that can reduce energy consumption, as social interest in energy saving rises amid a global energy crisis, and to align with the government’s energy-saving policy direction.
Coupang will offer about 1,000 products that directly produce energy or help manage consumption more efficiently in daily life. Key items include a solar wireless power bank, a portable self-generating lantern, an energy-saving power strip, a water-saving shower head and a heating tent.
Coupang explained it has strengthened energy-efficiency policies across Rocket Delivery operations, including its fulfilment and delivery infrastructure. It built electric freight-vehicle charging infrastructure in 2021, and introduced reusable eco-friendly Freshbags and participated in a high-efficiency home appliance rebate programme.
In May, it plans to take part in the "Green Consumption Week Promotion" hosted by the Ministry of Climate, Energy and Environment. Coupang said it will encourage consumption of energy-saving and green-certified products, and aims to contribute to establishing a sustainable culture of energy saving in South Korean society.
Harold Rogers (해롤드 로저스), Coupang's interim chief executive, said, "As the importance of energy saving grows, we expect this promotion, which companies and consumers can join together, will naturally encourage customers to take part in energy saving through everyday purchasing choices and help small and medium-sized companies expand their sales channels."
