Hana Financial Group said on March 16 it will form the Hana Modu Growth Infrastructure Fund worth about 500 billion won to help secure new growth drivers for the national economy by bringing private capital into productive finance.

The fund will be financed entirely with money from key Hana Financial Group affiliates. It is designed to take an early lead in renewable energy and the AI and digital infrastructure market, and to invest pre-emptively in industries at the initial development stage to serve as seed money for productive finance.

The fund will be formed through joint contributions of 400 billion won from Hana Bank, 50 billion won from Hana Securities and 50 billion won from other group affiliates. Those include 20 billion won from Hana Life Insurance, 17 billion won from Hana Capital, 10 billion won from Hana Insurance and 3 billion won from Hana Alternative Investment.

The fund's main investment targets are renewable energy and AI and digital infrastructure. It plans to invest in renewable energy and hydrogen projects, infrastructure projects such as energy storage systems and environmental facilities, and digital infrastructure projects such as AI data centres and AI computing centres.

In renewable energy, the Wando Geumil offshore wind power project is a key investment target. In AI and digital infrastructure, it plans to invest in the Bucheon Samjeong-dong AI Hub Center and the Incheon Guwol-dong AI Hub Center, large-scale AI data centre development projects. The two centres are located near major data centres in the Seoul metropolitan area, a feature that provides strong connectivity.

An official from Hana Financial Group's productive finance support team said forming the 500 billion won fund would go beyond simply generating returns and become a case of productive finance that supplies capital to the real economy, which is the foundation of the country's future industries. The official said the group plans to continue investing in innovative growth areas such as renewable energy and AI infrastructure.
