Kwak Byung-jin (곽병진), acting chief of Korea Post, visited Dongdaemun Post Office on Feb. 10 as special handling of holiday mail stepped up ahead of the Lunar New Year. He urged staff to work safely.

Kwak toured the Dongdaemun Post Office and listened to staff difficulties. He told employees, "Most important of all is your safety and health," and urged them to strengthen safety management and work to prevent cold-related illness.

Korea Post said it has entered an emergency work system for the special handling period through Feb. 20. About 12.32 million parcel items are expected to be accepted nationwide during that period. That is an average of 1.54 million a day, similar to last year’s Lunar New Year. Korea Post plans to strengthen accident prevention depending on weather conditions such as cold waves, heavy snow and icy roads to provide a safe working environment for postal workers.
