[DigitalToday intern reporter Kyungmin Hong (홍경민)] Nvidia has officially announced the release date, key features and detailed specifications of DLSS 4.5, a next-generation AI upscaling technology designed to maximise performance of RTX 50 series graphics cards. It said the update sets a new benchmark for the era of high-refresh-rate gaming.
On March 10 (local time), IT outlet The Verge reported that Nvidia will release 6x Multi Frame Generation, a core DLSS 4.5 feature for RTX 50 series users, on March 31.
The technology generates 5 additional frames with AI for each frame that is actually rendered, delivering up to a sixfold frame boost. That doubles the capability in DLSS 4, which supported up to 3 additional frames, and improves 4K frame rates by up to 35 percent versus the previous version in high-end games with path tracing applied.
Dynamic Frame Generation will also be rolled out the same day. The feature automatically adjusts the multi frame generation multiplier in real time depending on game load, and the AI flexibly allocates generated frames from 1x to 6x to match the user’s target frame rate or display refresh rate. It can provide stutter-free gameplay even in performance drop sections and reduce unnecessary power consumption.
DLSS 4.5 is based on a second-generation transformer model and was trained with more computation than before. It performs training and inference directly in linear space to improve lighting effects and edge rendering. It also uses auxiliary data from the game engine to address fixed UI distortion issues, and combines with the RTX 50 series’ fifth-generation tensor cores to deliver more precise image quality.
The update also focuses on optimising responsiveness. DLSS 4.5, combined with Nvidia Reflex technology, keeps latency increases to around 10 to 15 percent even in 6x frame generation mode. The optimisation is expected to provide an optimal environment for high-end gamers using ultra-high-refresh-rate monitors of 240 Hz or more.
Nvidia also announced, alongside the DLSS 4.5 update, the integration of DLSS 4.5 and path tracing into 20 new games including 007 First Light and CONTROL Resonant. From March 31, the features will be available first as a beta through settings in the Nvidia app, and RTX 40 series users can also benefit from improvements such as better Super Resolution performance.
The DLSS 4.5 update is expected to deliver smooth gameplay even in high-refresh-rate and 4K environments and provide an AI-based graphics experience optimised for RTX 50 series users. Nvidia is expected to set a differentiated performance benchmark for high-performance gaming and cloud streaming environments through the technology and future improvement plans.
