The Korea Investment & Financial Services Association said its chairman, Hwang Sung-yup (황성엽), will attend the International Council of Securities Associations annual general meeting in Delhi, India, from March 9 to 10 as his first overseas schedule since taking office. It said he will step up promotion of Korea's capital markets and cooperation with foreign institutional investors.
ICSA is a global capital markets consultative body made up of associations representing securities industries in major countries. It pursues policy proposals to develop capital markets and promotes information exchange and cooperation among members. It has 20 member organisations from 18 countries, including the United States.
This year's ICSA annual general meeting will be centred on a members' general meeting and an open conference.
The members' general meeting will discuss current issues in global capital markets, including global geopolitical risks, and ways to strengthen cooperation among member organisations.
It is expected to hold a broad exchange of views on the direction of global capital market development through sessions sharing capital market policy trends and changes in market structures in each country.
The open conference will bring together global capital market experts for in-depth discussions on recent issues, including balancing financial product innovation and investor protection, expanding bond market liquidity and innovating market infrastructure.
Hwang said Korea's capital markets are moving from quantitative growth to qualitative maturity in line with the government's policy direction, including capital market advancement, corporate value-up and efforts to be included in the MSCI developed market index. He said he will expand exchanges with global experts through ICSA and support sustainable growth and stronger competitiveness of Korea's capital markets.
