OpenAI has again delayed the launch of ChatGPT’s “adult mode”, TechCrunch reported on Friday.
Adult mode would allow verified adult users to access erotic content and other adult material. OpenAI CEO Sam Altman (샘 알트먼) announced in October last year that it planned to launch adult mode in December, but later declared an internal “code red” and adjusted priorities. As a result, a first-quarter launch target also fell through, TechCrunch reported.
An OpenAI spokesperson said in an interview with Axios that the company delayed the launch of adult mode to focus on work that more users need first. “Improving AI intelligence, personality and features is more urgent,” the spokesperson said. “We are maintaining the principle of treating adults as adults, but we need more time to implement it,” the spokesperson added.
The length of the delay was not disclosed, but TechCrunch reported that AI maturity and ethical controversy were likely to have had an impact.
