Koh Young Technology is moving to target the Japanese market with a brain-surgery robot. The company said on Tuesday it will present its brain-surgery medical robot, Geniant Cranial, at two neurosurgery conferences in Osaka, Japan.

It plans to broaden contacts with local medical staff and strengthen sales activities. The company has received approval from Japan’s Pharmaceuticals and Medical Devices Agency (PMDA).

The epilepsy surgery society meeting the company will attend is Japan’s most authoritative academic conference for sharing epilepsy surgery techniques. It will also participate in the Japanese Society for Stereotactic and Functional Neurosurgery that follows. The meeting covers precise brain surgery and functional neurosurgery, and discussions include advanced medical devices such as robot surgery and navigation systems.

A Koh Young Technology official said the company plans to focus on expanding the use of surgical robots in the local market through a sales strategy that combines distributors and direct sales in Japan. The official added the company is already discussing shipment schedules with major Japanese hospitals and distributors.
