The Ministry of Science and ICT’s Central Radio Management Service on Dec. 10 held a briefing on the system banning false caller ID to prevent voice phishing.
The system checks whether telecom operators comply with obligations such as blocking altered caller IDs. The agency inspects call and text service providers each year for violations and holds briefings to prevent recurrence.
This year it focused on amendments to the rule on preventing user harm from falsely displayed caller IDs, which are scheduled for early next year.
It shared details on the ban on false caller ID and key amendments, processing of spoofed-call reports in the impersonation reporting system, major violation cases from inspections and voice phishing cases from the National Police Agency.
Central Radio Management Service head Choi Jun-ho said it will continue efforts to protect public trust and maintain order in telecommunications use.
