Lens Protocol, a SocialFi project, said Mask Network will lead development going forward, The Block reported on Jan. 20.
Mask Network said on X it plans to popularise Lens Protocol. Mask Network moved to expand SocialFi in 2022 by acquiring the second-largest server on the decentralised social media platform Mastodon.
Lens Protocol is a decentralised social media platform launched in early 2022 by Stani Kulechov (스타니 쿨레초프), the founder of Aave. It emerged branding itself as an Ethereum-based Twitter. Kulechov said, "We built Lens Protocol and an on-chain data repository so developers can build applications for mainstream users." Within a year of its launch, Lens grew to support more than 110,000 social media profiles and hundreds of applications.
Farcaster, a SocialFi project similar to Lens Protocol, halted development of its decentralised social media and shifted its focus to wallet services. Farcaster co-founder Dan Romero (댄 로메로) said, "We tried social media for more than 4 years but did not succeed."
